Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz's mother Sandra Kassim popularly known as Mama Dangote has responded to claims that her son has been abusing drugs.
The singer who enjoys a huge following in Kenya and East Africa at large was accused of drug abuse after controversial Tanzanian blogger Mange Kiamambi claimed that the Bongo star uses hard drugs.
Kassim has come out to defend her son, saying that the artist can never abuse drugs.
Speaking last week during the launch of WCB's Vice President Romy Jones' music album, Mama Dangote said that Diamond was fully aware of side effects of drugs.
"Diamond can never ever abuse drugs because he knows the negative effects they come with. If indeed he abuses drugs, then he should have started in Tandale, but he did not do it there. He doesn't engage in drug abuse (Haeizi kuvuta dawa za kulevya, kwani hajui madhara yake? Kama angekuwa wa kuvuta dawa za kulevya angeanzia Tandale, lakini dawa za kulevya hajawahi vuta)," said Diamond's mother.
She further noted that the changes in Diamond's voice were due to the endless shows the singer has been taking part in.
"You know Naseeb has performed a lot and when he gets on stage, he sings live unlike others who use soundtracks. His voice sounds hoarse because he is always tired because of the hard work he puts in his craft (Naseeb amefanya sana show na anaimba kwa sauti yake bila kutegemea CD kama wengine, ndio maana sauti inamkauka)," she added.
Diamond Platnumz's manager Babu Tale also refuted claims that the artist uses hard drugs, arguing that Diamond was overdosing himself with excess work and limited sleep, which was affecting him.
