Residents across Nyamira County have applauded the governor John Nyagarama’s remarks on fighting corruption in the county.
A section of the residents said corruption is the reason to why the county has lagged behind in terms of development.
They said once corruption is stamped out the county will experience development.
Damaris Bina, a resident in Kebirigo said corruption has resulted to unemployment in the county, denying the county the power to create more jobs for the youth.
Another resident from Nyamira Albert Obiri claimed that the county has the tendency of misusing public funds instead of ensuring that they carry out beneficial projects.
"Our county officials have been misusing public funds meant for development, this is negating our economy," he said.
On Tuesday, Nyamira governor reassured the residents that he will firmly deal with corruption that has been rife in his government.
The governor promised to take appropriate action once the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission brings on any case that showcases corruption.
He called on officers involved in corruption to step aside rather than wait for his government to push them out of office.
He called on the County Assembly to deliberate on corruption reports quickly and hand them over to him so that he can act appropriately.
