Small-scale businesswomen from Mwongori area in Nyamira County benefitted from a training exercise on savings and investment sponsored by the Nyamira Tea Sacco

The Tuesday morning exercise at Mwongori market saw at least 30 women turn up for the exercise which is set to extend to other regions before Christmas.

The Sacco's field manager Peter Muhia said they were targeting small-scale businesswomen in addition to the Sacco's primary role of working with tea farmers from the region.

Muhia said the move was arrived at by the Sacco's management as part of its social responsibility in the region.

“We must put in mind that most of these businesswomen are our customers in tea farming. They have been working with the Sacco and the management decided to give back to the society by training them on financial management.

This is a good because it enlightens them on how to manage the little they get,” he said.

He said the management had also reduced interest rates by 2.5 percent that will take effect from January 2016 as a way of empowering them to access loans more easily from the Sacco.

“We are keen to train them because we also want to give them an opportunity to expand their businesses by applying for loans which we have reduced to 10 percent from 12.5 percent to make them affordable.

The training will be conducted in all regions and we will be glad if more women engaging in business participate,” he added.
