Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has been called upon Thika sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru to honour court order concerning Madaraka Market.
Ng’ang’a criticised the DCC for allegedly being used by Kiambu County government to oppress the public after the MP acquired an injunction restraining the county government from increasing rates paid by the market traders until the case is heard in court in March 4.
The court granted the MP an injunction barring the county government from interfering with the market operations till the case is settled in court.
Nevertheless, the DCC, according to Ng’ang’a, neglected to discharge his powers and instead sent police officers to the market to preside over the collection of the added levies.
The MP has now said that she is ready to take to the streets again if the court order is not obeyed and that she will influence the residents to protest without fear of the tear gas as they are fond of being attacked by the hired police and goons in the area.
“I will advocate for the rights of my people and no one will oppress them since they elected me to fight for their rights.
She alleged that Thika Police Officers are corrupt and are neglecting their obligations of securing the public and instead they are being used by some leaders to oppress the poor calling on the deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie, who was present at the meeting, to take action on the officers who do not work rightly.
