A Member of County Assembly in Nakuru has called on fellow leaders to prioritise making positive impacts in their areas of jurisdiction and desist from politicking all the time.

Speaking in Keringet on Sunday after hosting a high profile county government team in her ward including Governor Kinuthia Mbugua and his deputy Joseph Ruto, to help her raise funds for the construction of several churches in her area, MCA Leah Serem took issue with a section of leaders who ever since being elected into office have done nothing tangible for their people but are always making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

According to the legislature, time had come for leaders to be accountable for their words and actions because at the end of the day, society was lagging behind development wise in the hands of selfish and self-centred leaders.

“Some of us are too preoccupied in criticising our county government and engaging in petty politics instead of being in the forefront in serving the people. Leadership is about service, play your part and let the people gauge you,” she said.

She advised fellow leaders not to be carried away by fame and other things and forget to implement their duties saying it was the little things that they assume that make the difference.

The legislature also applauded Mbugua’s efforts in making Nakuru an industrialised county which she believes will make it cut the edge above other regions in terms of job creation and improving on the livelihoods of the people.

This comes barely two weeks after the governor signed a sister city agreement with China’s Ningxia city aimed at bringing synergy between the two regions in education, culture, sports, urban planning, infrastructure, public health among other important sectors of the economy.
