Police in Kapsoit, Kericho County had a hard time putting out a fire that burned down a government car.
Angry residents backed by bodaboda riders burnt down the vehicle after it hit a bodaboda rider killing him instantly.
According to eyewitnesses, the green state-owned saloon car knocked off the motorcycle while trying to overtake along the busy Kericho-Kisumu highway killing the rider on the spot.
Law enforcers and a team from the Kericho County government fire engine operators had a rough time taken as they engaged the angry residents in running battles over the incident.
The protesters blocked the busy highway bringing the operations to a standstill. The standoff lasted for almost two hours as police from other stations arrived for backup.
The rider was identified as a young man who recently completed his form four national exams.
Bodaboda riders complained of daily disregard of rules by other motorists while also blaming the police of not protecting them.
"We are tired of getting sized up by other motorists, instead of protecting us the police would constantly arrest us for petty mistakes," complained Collins Kipchirchir a Bodaboda rider.
The situation calmed down after some time and normalcy restored on the busy highway.
