An agitated Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has vowed to cancel contracts issued to incompetent insurance companies.
The government pays a host of insurance companies millions of money for civil servants, but some spend years claiming for the refund.
Speaking on Thursday when he hosted widows and widowers of slain police officers, Matiang'i said he has consulted the Attorney General on the move.
"In consultation with the AG, we'll cancel contracts of non-performing insurance companies. We shall only deal with firms & service providers who value the work we do.
"Widows & widowers of officers who have died in the line of duty will no longer be denied services they deserve," he said.
The interior minister wondered why the companies should be paid millions but go ahead to antagonise deserving clients when making claims.
Matiang'i asked the chairman of National Police Service to immediately table a report on the companies for swift action.
"I hope the chairman will bring me the performance report of the companies. I will not sit in a meeting lamenting the inefficiencies again. We must ensure that the widows of those who've given their lives to our country are well cared for," he said.
According to him, at least 142 police officers have died for the last eight years while in the line of duty.
