Haji noted that some of these officers aid local and international investors in tax evasion which costs the country billions of shillings.

“Investigations have revealed that there is major tax evasion and we will charge senior KRA managers and all those involved regardless of their status,” he said

Speaking in Naivasha at the Great Rift Valley Lodge, the DPP, who opened a five day workshop for his officers maintained that no one will be spared in the fight against tax evasion.

According to Haji, tax evaders take advantage of KRA tribunal's ineffectiveness and slow pace in recovering taxes.

His sentiments come days after Keroche Breweries bosses Tabitha Karanja and Joseph Karanja were arrested and charged with tax evasion.

Haji spoke on their arrests noting that they had been summoned earlier on but defied the order.

“We will not spare anyone, be it a local or international investor, in the war against corruption and tax evasion,” maintained Haji.

The DCI also commented on the arrest of senior government officials and the lack of convictions on such people.

He defended the arrests revealing that it is the Judiciary's job to jail the suspects.

“We are asking the Judiciary to fast-track cases and we are also ready for plea-bargain,” he added.

Haji also said that his office will be recruiting more personnel to aid in the fight against corruption.
