However, the internet is a double-edged sword. It can harm you when you least expect it.

There are steps of identifying fake Facebook accounts, whose remedy is blocking and reporting them to Facebook.

1. Profile picture

Indicators of a fake account are the stranger using a fake photo, mostly from celebrities, only have one profile photo that has never changed since he/she joined Facebook.

2. Check his or friends

If the stranger's friends list are not common within your region, you do not have any mutual friends, don't you see it sounds weird? Such accounts should be blocked and reported.

3. What he/she posts on the timeline

Just before you click add friend, visit what is shared on his or her timeline. Most fake account owners do not care what they share on their timelines, because they are anonymous to those who know them.

4. Use of other people's name

If a Facebook account with 'Uhuru Kenyatta' as its name sends you a friend request and you are aware the President cannot friend request you, this is a red flag. Scammers on Facebook mostly use celebs and public figures to scam unsuspecting people.
