A 34-year-old man was on Wednesday charged before a Kisumu court for raping a 16 year-old girl.
Martin Okech denied the charges before Chief Magistrate, Esther Maina for the offence he allegedly committed on August 14 in Kisumu.
According to the prosecution, the Nyawitta resident was found in bed with the girl at his home by the brother to the girl. The brother is said to have notified the mother who rushed to Okech’s house. The mother caught Okech in the act after gaining access into the house through the back door that had been left open. The two then raised an alarm, attracting neighbours who wanted to beat up Okech. The accused had managed to escape.
The girl was taken to hospital where she was treated before the matter was reported to the police. It is alleged that the accused had drugged the victim before taking her to bed. Okech who was arrested on Sunday in Kisumu however told the court that he slept with the minor after her approval as it was a willing situation and it should not be taken as rape. He was remanded in custody until Friday next week when his bail application will heard and determined.
