Youth in Kangundo, Machakos County, have been urged to engage in sporting activities to enable their bodies to be strong to work for their daily bread.
Speaking at a youth conference on Monday at Kangundo stadium, Tala Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumo said that engaging in sports will also enable youth to refrain from crime.
Tumo said the move will enable youth to shun criminal activities adding that a big number of the people who are arrested in the area in connection to crime and theft are youth.
The deputy commissioner said engagement of youth in sporting activities will also give room for expansion of talents.
“We have seen a great number of those who are arrested by the police in connection to crime and theft in this area are youth and this is the trend we want to end. We want to show youth that they can work and develop themselves and do not have to engage in criminal activities,” said Tumo.
Kangundo youth and sports officer Dickson Kilonzo said that athletes in some parts of the country are earning a fortune from their talent adding that they will continue supporting the youth to nurture their talents.
The conference was facilitated by Machakos County government to enable the youth in the area embrace arts and develop their talents in terms of sporting activities.
