Speaking at Kiamaina Trading Centre on Wednesday during the launch of Kiamaina Welding Group, Kariuki said that the informal sector is unexploited and urged youth to explore it.

“The youths can tap their talents in the sector.  White collar jobs are dwindling and the informal sector is opening its doors to youth,” said Kariuki.

The group has 23 youths who have pooled their money and bought five welding machines.

The administrator urged the youth to apply for Uwezo and Youth Development Funds to expand their businesses and employ more youth.

“Youths have a role to play in the growth of our area. With availability of funds, they can create more job opportunities for their peers,” he said.

David Maina, the chairman of the group said that the machines would ensure the youth do not engage in crimes.

“All the members will have work to do and there will be no room for crime,” said Maina.

Maina urged other jobless youth to join groups and start income generating projects.
