Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet has confirmed that police officers have launched investigations following the mysterious death of Peter Magara who played a vital role in the Jubilee Party campaigns during the 2017 polls in Gusii region.
Speaking on Sunday in Kisii town, Kibet said the lifeless body of Magara was found on Saturday morning outside Magharibi Hotel in Kisii where he had booked a room together with his wife Nyambura Magara.
"Detectives are on the ground investigating the mysterious death of Magara. The family members and the public should be calm and patient to give more time to police to probe the death which has left many in shock," said Kibet.
The police commissioner said detectives will issue a detailed report immediately the investigations are done.
The police boss said the death may not be linked to suicide, adding that detectives will do everything possible to establish the course of death.
"We can not rush to say whether he committed suicide or he was murdered because detectives are still probing the death though initial information indicates that Magara might have developed a psychiatric problem,” the commander opined.
