A section of transporters on Monday took their protests to the Mombasa Law Court where they burned down Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala's caricatures they had created.
The protesters were singing songs as they lit fire on Balala's caricatures and portraits.
"Balala you have been disturbing us and we have gotten tired of you and have burnt you down today. (Balala unasumbua, na leo tumekuchoka, leo tumekuchoma)," they sang as they moved in cycles around burning fie.
Last week Wednesday, Balala blamed private owners for the chaos and hostility witnessed in Mombasa following the recent government directive that all cargo be transported on Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
He blamed Mombasa businessmen of sponsoring protests against SGR during an international conference themed "Countering Wildlife Trafficking through Seaports" where he said the government had no single plan that will reverse any policies in favor of illegal activities.
According to Balala, private sectors were not embracing the security measure that had been put in place by the government through the Kenya Ports Authority, in ensuring that illegal businesses are stopped.
“The national government will not reverse policies against illegal activities that go on inside and outside the port," said the CS as quoted by Standard.
