Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on his facebook page has reacted to the sentencing of an 83 years old Embu man, Evanson Kihumba, to 30 years in jail over land grabbing.
Appearing before Embu Principal Magistrate Samuel Mutai on Thursday, Kihumba was charged over six counts.
The magistrate noted that evidence presented to him was enough to charge the accused with the land grabbing of land belonging to one Nyaga Kombuthi.
The court said that he grabbed land, worth Sh.12 million from Paul Kamara (deceased), who he lied to have bought from.
Citizen Digital noted that Kihumba was found guilty of forging the transfer documents.
The court thus sentenced him for 30 years to jail or pay a fine of Sh.1.2 million. However, the accused could not raise the money on Thursday thus was taken to jail.
The city boss noted that there was something fishy over the sentencing of the octogenarian.
''My people (Watu wangu) I need your guidance on this case. Do I send my private team to rescue this old man or you think he committed the alleged offence and deserves this punishment?'' said Sonko in his post.
At the same time, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino also gave his views on the case.
He questioned why the old man was arrested and charged for land grabbing yet corrupt officials walk free in the country.
''I don’t support this. Why can’t corrupt government officials be jailed? President should pardon this gentleman and give back the grabbed land to the owner,'' said Babu Owino.
