Two suspected poachers were arrested at Sameta Lodge police post, along the Kisii-Kilgoris road with two leopard and three cheetah skins worth Sh2.5 million .

The suspects, Dickson Makori, 25 and Geoffrey Iletisan, 30 were nabbed at around 6am on Wednesday by police who were at a police check at Sameta Lodge police post.

Corporals Hamisi Chuma and Deka Kipkorir said they arrested the two after they refused to open the car they were travelling in for inspection thereby raising suspicions.

The police said the two are suspected to have been carrying out the illegal poaching business from Masai Mara and selling the products to other counties such as Kisii and perhaps transporting them to other places where there is demand.

Douglas Kanja, OCS Ogembo, confirmed the arrests and said the two suspects are in police custody and will be arraigned in court tomorrow to face charges of being in possession of wildlife products against the law.

He added that they have launched investigations to identify where the two were taking the animal trophies and the exact place they got them.
