Residents of Nyangena village in West Mugirango constituency now want their MP James Gesami to act in speed and help them facilitate pumping of water from a nearby river.

According to them, the project which was launched in 2012 by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee has stalled with little efforts being made by the MP and the committee to solve the predicament despite reporting the matter on a number of occasions.

On Tuesday, the residents threatened to hold anti-Gesami demonstrations if he failed to solve the stalemate that has reportedly exposed them to walking uphill to fetch water from downstream.

“This water project was launched a couple of years ago under the administration of the incumbent. It is therefore disappointing that he has remained mum over the issue despite the community raising the issue with CDF committee. If going to the streets will be the solution, then be it,” said Mr Nelson Bosire, on behalf of the disgruntled residents.

They accused the local organising committee of colluding with the CDF committee to give negative reports on the progress of the project.

“The local committee is also to blame but we hope the MP will chip in and crack the whip on the organising committee members. It seems they know something that we don’t know. It is a shame that we are still forced to walk for a long distance to fetch water,” he added.

Efforts to get a comment from the local organising committee Chairperson Mr Chris Omare were unfruitful since he did not pick calls nor respond to text messages.
