The county government of Nyamira has been urged to come up with a clear plan of renovating and constructing feeder roads in the region to avert difficulties endured by a section of county residents in rural areas.
Residents of Gesima ward led by Shadrack Okioge, an engineer by profession, on Monday criticised the arrangement of the county government to improve the road networks terming it "visionless".
According to them, the county government did not have a clear plan on renovating the feeder roads but only responded to pressure from residents of certain regions.
“I am an engineer and we work with plans. We only hear the county leadership saying that they have a plan to improve our roads, but I want to state categorically clear that they are visionless and their so called plan is imaginary,” Okioge said.
Okioge said the county was likely to lose millions of shillings to unscrupulous contractors who took advantage of its lack of plans to defraud taxpayers.
“We have occasionally seen the county government responding to pressure from certain regions by initiating renovation of feeder roads in question. This leads to substandard work that makes the county incur huge expenses. We want to see a clear plan that will help us solve the state of poor roads in our county,” he added.
They said clear plan on improving the roads will see the county’s road sector improve tremendously by dealing with one section at ago.
“You must outline which areas that you want the work done and by when should you have the work finished. That is the only way we can help solve the road menace,” said Timothy Nyang’au, a Gesima resident.
