The Interior CS noted that the day has been set aside for our Muslim brothers and sisters to mark Idd-ul-Adha.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares that Tuesday, the 12th August 2019 be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Azha,” read part of a gazette notice signed by Dr Fred Matiang’ i, the Interior CS.

Idd-ul-Adha also called the "Feast of the Sacrifice" is an Islamic holiday marked each year across the world.

Idd-ul-Adha is celebrated to mark Ibrahim obedience to God through his willingness to sacrifice his son.

Just like God provided Ibrahim with a goat to sacrifice instead of his son, Islams too sacrifice an animal and the meat is divided into three parts.

The three parts are shared among the poor and the needy, relatives and another part is kept at home.
