The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force did not spend Sh10 billion in its cross-country public view-collection job, it has emerged.

This comes amid claims from critics of the team and the entire BBI issue that the task force gobbled up Sh10 billion.

The task force's Vice-Chair Adams Oloo has dismissed the claims, saying that only Sh260 million was used in the entire exercise.

Speaking on Radio Maisha on Tuesday morning, he termed any other information different from what he said baseless propaganda.

"We only used Sh260 million. Claims that we used Sh10 billion are lies and propaganda (Mambo eti tulitumia milioni kumi ni propaganda na uwongo. Tulitumia Sh260 million pekee yake)," he said.

He also rubbished claims that the BBI report, which was released last month, is not any different from other reports released by other commissions in the past.

Oloo said that contrary to the Waki, Kriegler and Ndung'u reports which concentrate on a single issue, BBI concentrates on all matters of national importance.

"Waki, Ndung'u and Kriegler reports were on specific issues. Therefore, it is not truthful saying that they are similar to ours (Waki, Ndung'u na Kriegler reports zilikuwa on specific issues, kwa hivyo mtu akisema yetu ni sawa na hizo atakuwa hasemi ukweli)," he added.

Oloo was part of the 14-member task force that was picked by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga early last year to scout for solutions to the nation's problems.

The bulk of their job involved getting proposals, views and opinions directly from members of the public.
