At least six pupils have been confirmed dead and several others injured on Monday morning at Precious Talent School in Nairobi after a classroom wall collapsed on them.
The incident reportedly took place at around 6:45 am when the pupils were settling in the class.
"Classroom with pupils inside collapses at a school along Ngong road, Nairobi. Red Cross and @EMS_Kenya response teams are at the scene. Details to follow," Red cross tweeted on Monday morning
Some of the students are still trapped in the debris and a rescue mission led by Redcross and The Nairobi County Fire Engine Department together with members of the public is currently ongoing.
The students who survived the morning incident were left with serious injuries.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Dr Richard Belio Kipsang arrived at the scene in the morning.
According to Kenya Red Cross, the rescue mission is still continuing.
"Search and rescue efforts ongoing, Kenya Red Cross to set up an information/tracing desk and offer psychosocial support services," Red Cross' latest tweet read.
Kenyans have taken to social media to mourn the pupils who passed away as they called on the government to issue more resources for the rescue mission.
