Police in Kisumu County are probing an incident in which a census enumerator attached to Maseno was allegedly gang-raped.
Confirming the incident, Nyanza police boss Dr Vincent Makhoha said that detectives have embarked on a probe into the matter.
The enumerator, whose identity has not been disclosed, was robbed by unknown people.
The police boss said that the attackers ambushed the woman after she had just been dropped by the supervisor after they completed the work of the day.
He also said that the attackers were hiding in a thicket near the woman’s house before they waylaid and raped her in the dark hours of the night.
According to Citizen Digital, the Supervisor who dropped the woman has been suspended by the County Statistics Department following the incident.
He has been accused of negligence after the event.
Detectives have since summoned the supervisor and the police officers who were together they dropped the woman. The officers are set to be questioned over the circumstances behind the incident.
The accused have recorded statements at the Maseno police Station.
The woman is in a stable condition after the attack.
The census exercise kicked off on Saturday and the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i had assured the enumerators of their security during the exercise.
