Residents of Nyakiogiro and Nyatieko areas in Kitutu Chache South constituency have appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to come to their rescue following the escalating cases of insecurity.
The angry residents speaking in Nyatieko on Thursday protested area chiefs' and police officers' laxity.
"The chiefs are lazy sympathizing with criminals. Every time a thief is caught in the village the chiefs collude with police and release the suspects under unclear circumstances. Matiang'i should intervene before criminals kill us in our houses," said a local, George Mabuka.
Another resident Evans Magato accused Nyatieko location chief Lawrence Omari and police officers from Nyatieko for failing to take action after thugs broke into Nyakiogiro and Nyatieko primary schools on the Wednesday night before they stole projectors and other equipments.
"Insecurity is high and as locals were are living in fear. We are begging CS Matiang'i to take action against the lazy chiefs and police officers who sleep as early as 8pm," said Magato.
However, Nyatieko chief Lawrence Omari dismissed the laxity allegations saying he is working hand in hand with assistant chiefs and police officers to kick out criminals.
"Thugs terrorizing residents are being hunt down by police. Residents should be patient to allow police to do their work," Omari noted.
