A body of Nyandarua County official who was allegedly raped before being murdered was found at a roadside at Heshima village in Ol Jororok sub-county on Saturday morning.
Police reports also indicated signs of physical violence as the body of Mary Mundothi who was working as a community development assistant at Ndaragua sub-county was found with deep cuts on the head.
The deceased is reported to have been travelling from Nairobi to her home when she met her death.
Nyandarua County Police Commander Gideon Ngumi pointed out that the assailants could have sexually assaulted Mundothi before killing her.
"Area assistant chief reported that the body of an unknown female adult had been found lying by the roadside near the Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology. We rushed to the scene and found it. It had severe head injuries and deep cuts on the left cheek with no innerwear, " Ngumi said as quoted by the Standard.
The incident attracted the attention of Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia who condoled with the bereaved family and called for the arrest of the perpetrators.
"We condole with the bereaved family, but call on the police to speed up the investigations so that those behind the killing are brought to book. It is a sad day for the people of Nyandarua" he stated.
The body was transported to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary.
