Renowned blogger and digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has dismissed reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are fighting for control of Parliament.
In it's headline on Friday, Daily Nation reported the Jubilee top leaders were engaged in a supremacy contest over Kenya's push to raise debt ceiling to Sh9 trillion.
The request by the National Treasury to raise the public debt ceiling from Sh6 trillion to Sh9 trillion is expected to be tabled in the Senate next week, and the paper claimed senators allied to Ruto have vowed to shoot it down.
Itumbi, however, rubbished the allegations saying the DP was supporting his boss in the push to adjust the debt ceiling.
The State House Secretary of Digital, Innovation and Diaspora Communication accused Nation Media Group of making up stories with the aim of increasing newspaper sales.
"Fake news - as usual! - For the record, DP William Ruto has accepted he is the official 'Mtu wa Mkono' to the president and repeated it many times in private and in public. But here is a newsroom obsessed with phantom fights to sell papers! Lakini, tunaelewa, Gazeti lazima iuzwe!(But we understand the newspaper must be sold!)," Itumbi tweeted on Friday.
Two weeks ago, the debate to raise the debt ceiling received overwhelming support in the National Assembly from both Jubilee and opposition MPs.
"Debts have been used around the world to boost the economy. The ceilings will help retire some of the expensive loans…," said Minority Whip and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
