More than 50 bodaboda operators and residents in Matuu area have demolished and burnt structures erected by the county government that aid collection of revenue.

The revenue clerk officials who were on duty said that two revenue collection centres along Garissa Road were burnt to ashes, as they took to their heels to escape the menace of the angry operators.

Meanwhile, commuters along the affected busy route were inconvenienced as the operators engaged in demolitions and further blocked the road for about an hour before the police arrived at the area and dispersed them.

They also set on fire furniture and other structure used by the officers.

According to one of them, who sought anonymity, they protested due to the poor state of roads in the area suburbs yet people were continuously charged revenue and thus no development in return.

The area MCA David Kiviu was unavailable for comment when the press tried to know the main cause of the protests.

The protestors are alleged to have attacked a journalist who had arrived to take pictures of the scene and destroyed his cameras- an incident that is yet to be confirmed as the said victim has not yet been traced.

Matuu OCS Peter Mbua said that there were no injuries reported and that the police were able to calm the protestors and the situation has resumed to normal.
