The Nakuru cholera death toll has now reached 14 with 153 more patients under treatment for the disease. Nakuru County chief public heath officer Samuel Kingori ruled out the contamination of the water as responsible for the steady increase in the spread of the disease. The health expert pointed out that the number would have been higher if the reason behind the disease was unclean water as the source would have been central. “The number of fatalities would have been higher if such was the case. Our water, however, is well treated and clean. We have even given our residents aqua tabs. Majority of the water vendors in our area are also taught on hygiene and can be able to serve and handle water well. We currently do not have any issue in relation to the water in distribution,” he said. Kingori pointed out that the fact that the disease originated from different parts of the country indicates that it is not a local problem. “The disease originated from Migori and was brought by one of the chang’aa distillers who spread it to majority of the residents. We are appealing to the administration police and the chiefs In the area to fight chang’aa which will contribute greatly to dealing with the cholera outbreak,” he said. He was speaking to reporters in his office on Monday morning.
