Uasin Gishu residents are soon set to access affordable housing units courtesy of a partnership between county government and the Ministry of Housing.
On Tuesday, Ministry of Housing officials and Chief Officer of lands and housing in the county, Advocate Ruth Chelashaw held a meeting to discuss ways of ensuring the programme commences soon.
Representing Principal Secretary for Housing, John Barsito, the advisor communication and stakeholders engagement noted that the ministry of Housing was ready to partner with Uasin Gishu county government.
The partnership will see at least 2,000 affordable housing units projected in Uasin Gishu County.
He also said the county government had already struck a Memorandum of Understanding with the ministry on how the programme is going to run.
"As one of the president's big four Agenda, we are determined to deliver 10,000 housing units. We are working with 10 counties currently and we are glad to inform you that 'Boma Yangu' digital platform Uasin Gishu has the highest applications for affordable housing," stated Barsito as quoted in a post on the county's official Facebook page.
The officials later visited Parkland Estate where housing units worth Sh4.1 billion had been projected.
"Am so impressed with what the ministry is doing in Nairobi and am here to seek support from the ministry as well as a way forward to ensuring Uasin County gets the same since the demand for housing is quite high," noted Chelashaw, the Chief Officer of Lands and Housing.
The programme will prioritize civil servants and the publics earning less than Sh150,000 per month.
