Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said that the Mt Kenya region will have it hard embracing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in future polls.
This comes only weeks after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, also from the region, claimed that the Central Kenya bloc would easily embrace Raila in the 2022 polls.
But speaking on K24's Punchline on Sunday, the MP faulted the observation, saying that the former Prime Minister who has not been in good political terms with the region, remains a tough sell.
"Raila Odinga is tough sell in Mt Kenya region," Kuria said as quoted by K24 in a tweet.
He added that similarly, the region is very likely to reject the proposed referendum, where some of the supporters are proposing a return to the parliamentary system from the presidential one.
He said that the region might fear a return to the parliamentary system on grounds that it will not get an equal share.
"I have heard people talk about parliamentary systems, maybe that is what scares people. We have 64 constituencies out of 290. They don't count for much that is a big issue because we have 6 million votes," the MP noted in another tweet by K24.
Raila's allies are among the group that has been pushing for the changes under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), founded after the famous handshake.
The BBI was succeeded by the BBI taskforce, which Raila has repeatedly claimed it will propose changes in its report, after crisscrossing the nation in search for solutions to her wrangles.
