Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka insisted that the Gusii community has come of age to play an important role in national politics.

According to the seasoned politicians, the community shall rally for Matiang'i and hope for concrete negotiations with national leaders such as Raila.

"We cannot continue being top ups. We have numbers and it's time for us to come together and speak as one team. We are the second largest in economic development and we can't be number 17 in political development.

"I am a Catholic and they have supported Matiang'i. Let him organise with Governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama. We shall visit Raila and ask him for support," he said.

Governor Ongwae said he has no problem having Matiang'i going for presidency. He said the community shall fully support the bid once he declares.

"He has lifted high our name as a community. I shall join other leaders for his bid. We can talk to Jakom (Raila) and I am sure he has no problem with that," he said.

Last week, a host of leaders led by Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Governor John Nyagarama backed Matiang'i's bid. The interior boss is however yet to declare political interests.
