Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has lashed out at Team Embrace after presenting its proposal on constitutional amendments to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Led by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Kamotho, the women group which supports the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, proposed the expansion of the Executive arm of government to ensure inclusivity.
The women leaders supported the creation of an expanded presidency which will have the president, the deputy president, a prime minister and two deputy prime ministers.
"Position of Women: Further, the Presidency shall never again polarise the country along tribal lines. Expanding the Executive shall be required to seamlessly address regional representation," the governor tweeted on Thursday.
Cheruiyot dismissed the proposal, saying it was aimed at creating jobs for prominent politicians, instead of addressing youth unemployment.
"The Embrace women brigade shouldn't take Kenyans for fools. Ati inclusivity in this republic means a mongrel of an expanded executive at the top? More jobs for the big boys and girls. Then what do we do to the millions of jobless youths?" asked the senator.
Cheruiyot is allied to Deputy President William Ruto-led 'Tanga Tanga' team which has long opposed the BBI team.
The group claims the BBI was formed by Uhuru and Raila with an aim of scuttling Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
"This initiative was not meant to unite the country but to push some people out. It should be called Breaking Bridges Initiative because they have succeeded in breaking Jubilee by creating two camps. The moment they decided to alienate Ruto that is when we knew the initiative was not genuine,” Belgut MP Nelson Koech told the Standard last week.
