Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has refuted claims that he has been politicking, contrary to President Uhuru Kenyatta's orders against the same.
Speaking during the burial of departed musician John DeMathew in Gatanga, Muranga County on Saturday, he denied the allegations before the president.
The DP was responding to former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo's claims that he had been politicking ahead of time, claims that were also directed to Uhuru by the ex-governor.
When he took the podium, the DP sought to clear his name, instead reporting Kabogo for being a provocative friend, as he denied the charges leveled against him.
"Kabogo is my friend but he can be provocative at times. He is now reporting to you that I have been politicking. That's a lie, if there are people politicking its not me. (Kabogo ni rafiki yangu lakini saa zingine ni mchokozi. Sasa amekuja kunishtaki kwako rais ati huwa nafanya siasa. Nataka kusema hiyo maneno si ya ukweli. Kama kuna wengine wanafanya siasa ni wengine sio mimi)," he said.
He added that he has strictly stuck to his constitutional job as the president's deputy and whatever he has been doing has been in line with the same.
The DP noted that his actions are solely aimed at ensuring that the president succeeds in his intentions.
"I have a job, and was sworn in alongside the president. Its my role to help him. I must work to help him succeed. (Mimi niko na kazi ambayo niliapishwa pamoja na rais. Hiyo kazi lazima nifanye ya kumsaidia rais. Mkiona nikifanya hiyo kazi mjue lazima nifanye kazi ili rais afaulu)," he added.
