Deputy President William Ruto for the first time came face to face with Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya amid assassination puzzle.
A fortnight ago, Munya and three other ministers were summoned by DCI George Kinoti over alleged assassination plot, with DP Ruto insisting that there was a sinister motive to eliminate him.
On Monday at KICC during the National Export Strategy Expo, the two leaders met face to face, with their body language throughout indicating animosity.
After a brief handshake, Munya led Ruto to Chambers for the meeting. Dr Ruto sat in the middle of Mr Munya and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Last week, Munya returned to Meru to dismiss claims that he was involved in any murder plot. He asked Deputy President William Ruto to make a formal complaint.
"I came home to defend myself because you might think I have become a murderer," he told a funeral.
"I am here to assure you that I have not changed. I cannot be found in a gathering of murderers. As a Njuri Ncheke elder, I know how to respect the sanctity of life."
During the expo, Dr Ruto steered off politics and instead focused on the conversation on improving Kenya's export numbers. He said the country was not doing well.
“It is clear Kenya’s export numbers are lagging behind; others in the global market,” said Ruto, adding: “We need to solve this problem. Our trade deficit is close to a trillion shillings.”
On his part, Mr Odinga focused on energy, arguing that the government should work on reducing costs to attract more investors.
“To do value addition you need a lot of power. Energy costs currently are too high. When the cost stands at 16 cents per unit, you cannot compete effectively internationally. You cannot compete with someone who pays 3 cents for power,” said Raila.
