Police officers in Vihiga county have launched an investigation after a secondary school teacher committed suicide.
Daniel Ingoro, a biology teacher at Hobunaka secondary school set himself ablaze in a suspected case of depression.
According to Vihiga County Police Commander, the deceased was due for retirement in six months time.
He observed that the teacher had been spotted buying petrol from a nearby petrol station which he used to set himself on fire.
"Witnesses informed us that he had bought petrol and locked himself in the house before serving it on fire," said Barua on Monday.
The teacher had been living alone after divorcing his wife 40 years ago.
William Sunguti, Hobunaka secondary school principal described the deceased as a calm and reserved person.
The principal noted that the deceased showed no signs of depression when he was in school on Friday.
He observed that due to his nature, he had few friends with whom he shared his issues with.
The principal urged teachers to talk about issues affecting them to avoid such occurrences.
"After the prayer closing of a staff meeting, he prayed and left for home. He didn't show any signs of depression," said Sunguti.
