Retired Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has taken a swipe at the Kenyan media over the current political impasse in the country.
Various political factions have emerged, centred along ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto ahead of 2022 polls not forgetting the noise around the BBI report.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is also at the center of the storm, with a section of Ruto's allies accusing him of plotting to extend his term.
But in a tweet, Dr Mutunga accused the media of failing to give a chance to alternative voices in the political arena.
"The Kenyan media rarely researches, monitors or glorifies struggles for alternative political leadership," argued Dr Mutunga.
"The deliberate or unintended media narratives project the barons as permanent and invincible, a necessary evil we have to live with. Colonial narratives were similar," he added.
In support of his sentiments, Martha Karua said that the media seems to have taken sides as compared to earlier days.
"They used to do better in the struggle for the second liberation. Most of them were partners in the struggle!" her tweet read.
In most cases, Kenyan media houses are owned by politicians or their close friends and business partners.
Dr Mutunga, who retired in 2016, is a victim of political detention. In the 1980s, who was detained by KANU regime for fighting for pluralism.
Kenya is set for another election on 2022 and Dr Mutunga recently warned of possible chaos due to current political impasse.
