The plane carrying President Uhuru Kenyatta and his delegation touched down in Chato, Tanzania Friday in a historic visit.

Uhuru is the first Kenyan President to set foot in Chato, the hometown of his Tanzanian counterpart John Pombe Magufuli.

"When I disembarked from the plane, I told my friend that I am the first foreign president to step in Chato. (Wakati tumeshuka kwa ndege, nimemwambia ndugu yangu mimi ndiye rais wa kwanza wa nje kukanyaga Chato), " the Kenyan president said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was in Tanzania on the invitation of Magufuli. 

When he touched down, President Uhuru was welcomed with traditional dancers and a crowd of Tanzanian citizens waving the flags of both countries.

The Kenyan head of state emphasized the strong bilateral ties between the country and called for obstacles to unity to be removed.

He said that he would want part of his legacy to be a more cohesive and united East Africa.

"If there is one thing I would like to see before the end of my time, it is to see that East Africa is one. (Kama kuna kitu ningependa kuona mbele ya wakati wangu uishe, ni siss wana East Africa tukiwa kitu kimoja).

President Kenyatta has been a strong proponent of a more cohesive East Africa.
