Mutua now wants Governor Waititu to step aside after pleading to graft charges in court.

According to Mutua, the court directive that Waititu should not access his office is reason enough for him to resign.

“It’s not ENOUGH for Kiambu Governor Waititu to be barred from office. He must RESIGN,” the US-based law scholar tweeted.

Waititu was arrested and arraigned in court on Monday alongside his wife Susan Wangari and other suspects.

He pleaded not guilty to six counts of graft charges relating to the alleged Sh588 Million irregular tender.

Governor Waititu’s arrest came after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for his arraignment in court.

Haji claimed that he has sufficient evidence to prosecute Waititu’s case in court.

On Tuesday, Milimani Anti-Corruption Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi freed Waititu on a Sh30 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh15 million.

The Governor’s wife was slapped with a Sh10 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh4 million.

While granting bail, the court ordered Waititu and other suspects not to access their offices unless they are in company of the Investigating Officer (IO).

The Governor was also ordered to deposit his passport in court and warned against interfering with witnesses in the case.
