Speaking in Kisumu on Saturday, Wetangula, also Bungoma Senator, appealed to ODM leader Raila Odinga to endorse him for the seat when that time comes.

The former Senate minority leader said that Raila should reconsider endorsing him for the nation’s top post because he stood with him the time he needed him the most.

He said that the support of the ODM leader will be an added advantage on his part as he takes a stab at the presidential race.

He also reminded his supporters that he has what it takes to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta upon the completion of his second and final term in office.

"Without any fear of contradiction, I will be on the ballot in 2022 and am asking my brother Raila, my brother Kalonzo and my brother Mudavadi to let me try this horse this time," said Wetangula, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

He also said that he welcomes any political alliances if that is the only way he can ascend to power.
