Friday's Al-Shabaab attack at Kismayo continues to dominate social media platforms with details of those who perished emerging from the port town of Somalia.
Renowned tycoon Mahad Nur was among those who perished in the deadly attack that saw Al-Shabaab holding hostage Kismayo for over 12 hours until KDF's rescue on Saturday morning.
Mr Nur, who is the Managing Director of Victoria Platinum and several supermarkets in Tanzania, will be remembered for his philanthropic activities in and out of Somalia.
In 2017, he managed to mobilise for Sh10 million in a single night that was channelled to Somalia following a drought that killed dozens of people.
"@mahad71 a philanthropist & Somali businessman based in Tanzania. He raised over $100,000 in one night during the 2017 drought that was ravaging Somalia. He was killed in the #Kismayo attack alongside other investors he took to see potential opportunities. May Allah grant him Jannah," tweeted communication guru Ahmed Mohamed.
Earlier, Integration TV host Hodan Nalayeh's death had moved the world. She was killed alongside her husband Farid Jama in Asasey Hotel within Kismayo.
"Inspirational TV personality who returned from Canada to report positive stories about Somalia, Hodan Nalayeh, killed in Al-Shabaab complex attack in Kismayo - Minister @JustAwHirsi confirms. Hodan was the founder of @IntegrationTV that reports on local and diaspora," VOA journalist Harun Maruf confirmed.
Another businessman Hassan Jelle, who is also credited for several philanthropic activities in Somalia, was confirmed as among those who died following the Al-Shabaab attack.
The attack was condemned by several senior Somali leaders from Kenya among them Majority Leader Aden Duale, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan and former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim.
"Shocked by the death of Hodan Naleye. She was in a unique class of technocrats who held on to the hope of stable Somalia. She sacrificed her life and that of her husband for motherland. Her sacrifice shall not be in vain. Somalia is rising & reaching for the skies. AS on backfoot!" Maalim tweeted.
