Former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi has yet again poked holes on the Building Bridges Initiative report, which was launched last week.
On Tuesday, the Amani National Congress leader dismissed plans to create Prime Minister and State minister posts, arguing that it is a waste of resources.
According to the former Sabatia MP, the two posts duplicate roles thus Kenyans will not get value of their money.
“What will be the relationship between a minister of State and prime minister? Isn’t this duplication of duties and sheer waste of scarce resources?” posed Mudavadi as quoted by Standard.
“How honest is the proposal that the PM will rank above MPs and ministers of State but will draw an equal salary? What is the secret motivation here? Untold allowances? If the government has had the temerity to interfere with the budget of the Judiciary which in law is a charge on the consolidated fund and, therefore, untouchable, how much more would a government headed by an imperial president do here in allocating allowances so as to match the position of the PM?” he added.
The State minister will sit in the Office of the President and will be responsible for running affairs on behalf of the Head of State.
Most of the duties are currently under Interior Ministry.
According to the BBI report, the Prime Minister will be an elected MP appointed by the president from the majority party with approval of Parliament.
He/she will be in charge of running day to day activities in the government including supervision of projects and chairing of Cabinet sub committees.
