The family led by Okoth's mother Anjelina Ajwang was initially involved in attempts to have his body interred at their home in Kasipul Kabondo, Homa Bay county.

On the other hand was the MP's paternal family which wanted his body buried next to his father's grave in Kochia, the same county, before his cremation on Saturday morning.

Speaking on Saturday, Okoth's maternal uncle Benson Samba said that there were no plans to bury him in the area, though arrangements were in place to have the remains ferried to Got Rateng' Primary School for viewing.

"Claiming that the community wanted to bury the body in Kabondo Kasipul is not true. We obey the law and would have done anything the law requires as long as the body was brought to us for viewing," Samba said as quoted by Daily Nation.

The family which was readying itself to view the body of their son had already begun receiving visitors both at Ajwang's homestead before learning of his cremation.

They had also brought a ram that was to be slaughtered for the guests, and are now lamenting for being denied the opportunity to view his remains before his disposal.

“The worst they could do was to let us see the body and take it back for whatever they had planned,” noted Samba.

Okoth succumbed to cancer of the colon on Friday last week.
