Political analyst Prof Edward Kisiang'ani has rubbished calls for ODM party leader Raila Odinga to retire from politics.
A section of politicians has been piling pressure on Raila, 74, to quit active politics, arguing he was 'too old' for the job.
However, Kisiang'ani dismissed the politicians saying the ODM boss, who is reportedly eyeing the presidency in the next polls, should not be blocked from achieving his political ambitions on account of age.
Taking to social media on Sunday night, he said there was no law putting an age limit on presidential contenders, therefore, Raila should be let free to join the race to the State House.
"I dismiss anybody who wants Raila stopped from running for President in 2022 on account of age. Nothing in the constitution puts an age limit to Presidential candidates. So let's not waste time on that. RAO should willingly accept to vie or be forced to do so by his supporters!" Kisiang'ani posted.
The remarks came after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria asked Raila, together with his handshake partner President Uhuru Kenyatta, to head to retirement in order for the country to have lasting peace.
The vocal legislator said even though he was backing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, which the duo have been pushing, the document will not lead to peace if they continue playing active roles in politics.
"We had been told that BBI when we hold elections we will not have violence. (Tulikuwa tumeambiwa eti BBI tukichaguana hakutakuwa na vita). You dont need that. Although we will pass it. I am telling the president, the only way there will be peace in Kenya is If you and Raila Odinga retire and go home, that is a sure bet," Kuria said.
