A group of Jubilee Party-allied residents in Kilifi have constituted 28 committees tasked to campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the county as Kenya’s fourth president seeks a second term in office. The group, ‘Friends of Uhuru’ has intensified the president’s campaigns in the county regarded an opposition stronghold. The committees will man more than 40 out of the 111 polling stations in Ganze in a strategy campaign for the president at the grassroots.Group leader Duncan Ndegwa told journalists the team will not champion for six-piece voting but fight to ensure Uhuru increases his vote count compared to 2013 when ODM Party leader Raila Odinga beat him hands down.Ndegwa said they started the campaign to counter the strong opposition wave that is sweeping the region, strengthen Jubilee and make the ruling party more appealing to voters. It recently emerged that Governors Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and Hassan Joho (Mombasa) unveiled a strategy document dubbed ‘Pwani Ni NASA’ in an attempt to lock out Jubilee and other small parties threatening to infiltrate the region ahead of the August 8 poll.“We will campaign for ourselves, but we will also expose those Jubilee candidates for who they are. Coast is under NASA and in this election, we want to make a statement as the people of this region,” Kingi said recently.NASA Pentagon members Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Isaac Ruto are expected to tour Coast before the end of May.
