It is not common to see primary school pupils learning in a classroom with tiled floors, but this is now a common occurrence to pupils of various schools in Nyando constituency, Kisumu County.
Pupils of Nyamrundu, Kolunga and Kamunda primary schools are now heads and shoulders high from their colleagues in other schools in the county and country, after area Member of Parliament (MP) Jared Okello started a venture to construct modern classrooms and rehabilitate others in the area.
In an interview on Thursday morning, National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) Nyando Fund Account Manager Alfred Chisaina said they constructed three modern classrooms at Nyamrundu Primary School, rehabilitated four at Kolunga Primary and constructed two classrooms at Kamunda Primary School.
“The construction of a modern tiled classroom costs Sh1 Million,” said Chisaina, adding that the plan of constructing modern classrooms in the area is spread across the sub-county.

“Hon Jared Okelo has again done it at Kolunga Primary School where pupils are for the first time taking their lessons in new tiled classrooms. The era of dilapidated classrooms in Nyando Constituency is fast coming to an abrupt end,” read an earlier communication sent out by the Nyando Communication Unit.
Jared Okelo is serving his first term as MP after being elected in 2017 on the ODM party ticket.
