Governor Hassan Joho's government has promised to soon demolish the old municipal houses in affected areas and give Mombasa a new look by constructing modern houses.

Speaking to Citizen Television, Chuda residents alleged that they have not received official communication about planned demolitions. They claim that the information they have has been received from other channels and not from the County Government of Mombasa.

"I have been living here for over sixty years. We have seen it in the newspapers that the houses will be demolished but we have not been informed if there will be any form of compensation to start new lives elsewhere. However, we have seen a gazette notice that the demolitions will be done.

The county has stated that the demolitions are not aimed at forcefully relocating residents but giving them better houses. They have planned to finish the project by 2022.

Mr Onyango requested the county to make the houses affordable to locals. His allegations about lack of direct communication were echoed by Chuda Youth FC coach Julius Mutisia. He also asked that local youth should be given employment opportunities by this project.
