President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday kicked Kiunjuri out of Cabinet, and appointed Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya as the new Agriculture CS.

Kiunjuri, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, is believed to be one of the politicians eyeing a bigger seat in 2022 polls.

Reacting to the appointment, Cherargei, an ally of the DP, faulted those 'celebrating' Kiunjuri’s ouster and faulted the Head of State for applying “double standards” in the changes.

According to him, President Kenyatta should have also sacked other Cabinet Secretaries alleged to be taking part in politics.

“This is application of double standards. If the President was to fire any CS for involvement in politics, then (Fred) Matiang’i (Interior) should have gone alongside Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution) and Munya (Agriculture),” said Mr Cherargei.

He accused Matiang’i of being preoccupied with BBI politics “when Al-Shabaab have a field day in Northern Kenya”.

Both Matiang'i, and Wamalwa have been seen participating in functions associated with politics.

For instance, Matiang'i and Wamalwa attended the Building Bridges Initiative meeting in Kisii last week on Friday.
