A 70-year-old man was on Saturday arrested for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.
The old man reportedly committed the heinous act in Kaluluini village, Yatta, Machakos County.
The incident was confirmed by area chief Januaris Nzomo Munyasya who said the suspect is being held at Matuu police station.
According to Chief Munyasya, the little girl was rushed to Matuu level four hospital, where she received treatment after allegedly being defiled by the suspect.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court today and charged with defilement.
The local administrator warned residents against covering up defilement cases, adding that such matters are sensitive and should be reported immediately they occur.
He further noted that some people were reporting cases of defilement after failed negotiations making it difficult to gather necessary evidence required to convict the suspects.
"For the sake of the victims and family, let us not hide such incidences when ever they occur, you should be aware that covering up such incidences is a crime," said Munyasya.
"Also, avoid late reporting because the evidence may be tampered with, this making it hard to prove the case in court" he added.
