A London hospital is demanding Sh2 millions for the treatment of former Bomet Governor the late Joyce Laboso, Edwin Abonyo, the widower has said.
Laboso succumbed to cancer in Nairobi Hospital after months of treatment abroad. She died in July and was buried in Muhoroni constituency.
In an exclusive interview with The Star, Abonyo said that he recently received a call from the hospital where they asked for Sh2 million unpaid bills.
According to him, he informed the hospital management that the patient has since died but he's unsure if they will come again knocking.
"Together with my son, we cleared with the hospital, so we were surprised to have the bill," he said.
"I however told them that we actually lost the patient, and since then they went silent. So we don't know whether they will pursue it or let it slide," added.
After spells in London, Laboso was transferred to India briefly before coming back to Kenya. Her Deputy Hillary Barchok was sworn in as governor.
The widower however, lauded the state for contributing much during the burial, adding that his wife had numerous loyal friends who helped him.
"The state must be well appreciated. It afforded us much help. Joyce also had numerous friends who were loyal, genuine and true," he added.
Laboso served as Sotik MP for two terms after the death of her sister Lorna Laboso in 2008. There after, she beat Isaac Ruto in Bomet gubernatorial polls.
