Veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has said that Deputy President William Ruto might soon resign from the government due to humiliation.
The former Subukia MP says that the DP has been dealing with mistreatment from President Uhuru Kenyatta lately, the latest instance being during the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report launch at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday.
He suggests that this indicates that the initial chemistry between the two is over, and Uhuru is deliberately trying to force his deputy out of government, which could soon materialize.
"I think the Deputy President might soon leave government as he is being pushed so hard. If pushed further, he might leave, but not out of his liking but due to pressure. (Nafikiria makamu wa rais huenda akajitoa serikalini maana anasukumwa. Akiendelea kusukumwa huenda akajitoa, lakini sio kwa kupenda ila shingo upande)," Koigi said on Saturday evening.
The vocal politician made the remarks in an interview on Nakuru-based Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show.
He also condemned the series of events on Wednesday, where Uhuru appeared to be openly humiliating his deputy, with whom they were seated on the high table.
At the function, Uhuru appeared more jovial towards ODM leader Raila Odinga who was also seated at the high table, rendering Ruto an openly uncomfortable figure.
Koigi is of the idea that such should not be shown to the public, advising the president to address his issues with the DP in private rather than laying them bare for all to see.
"What is the need of inviting your deputy, only to play around and give indications that you are fighting? (Kuna haja gani wewe unaalika naibu wako halafu unaanza michezo ya kuonyesha mnapigana?)," he posed.
Prior to the function, Ruto was locked out of a meeting between Uhuru and Raila, with presidential guards manning the door as he remained outside.
