Kisumu Town residents were on Monday and Tuesday left in darkness after a power outage that lasted for over 16 hours.
The power was yet to be restored by 2 pm on Tuesday, since 6:30 pm on Monday, a situation that has been blamed on the heavy rains that continue to pound most parts of the county.
Business owners in the Central Business District (CBD) and its environs, including estates of Obunga, Nyamasaria, Kondele incurred extra costs using generators for power.
The situation was confirmed by Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) operations maintenance officer Daniel Okumu, who said that the situation will be resolved.
"We have been hit but by the end of the day we will have the power supply in the affected areas,” Okumu told the Standard on Tuesday.
Residents registered their complains, hoping that the power is restored in time, with security officers reporting that work on Monday night was hard since most CCTV cameras were off.
“I normally work late but with the sudden blackout I had to close and go home," said Mary Anyango, a cyber cafe operator in Nyalenda Estate.
One of the three electric poles that were felled by the storm is the one supplying power to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
